Booster immunisation of patients treated with standard dose chemotherapy

The administration of booster immunisations should be started no earlier than 6 months after completion of chemotherapy treatment for leukaemia, lymphoma or solid tumour.

Children treated with High Dose Chemotherapy, followed by Autologous or Allogeneic Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) will receive a comprehensive revaccination programme at 12 months post transplant, which reflects their more profound immune suppression.

Important Note: the current unit policy is not to measure functional antibody status in children after completion of standard dose chemotherapy.

Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP) staff, in liaison with Primary Care, will be responsible for administering immunisations.  All requests for NHSGGC patient immunisation should be sent to the Screening Department, Templeton Business Centre, First Floor Building 2, 62 Templeton Street, Glasgow G40 1DA. 

Those residing outwith NHSGGC this should be sent to the appropriate HSCP.

Each patient’s consultant will decide if booster immunisations are required and when these should start. 

Appendix 1 shows the correct vaccination details and will be completed and copied to the patient’s GP and the relevant HSCP.
