What we do

The department of neonatology within the Royal Hospital for Children is the largest neonatal department in Scotland. The neonatal unit has 50 cots split across 2 levels and provides all forms of neonatal intensive care, including extra corporeal life support (ECLS). The unit also provides support to the following nationally designated paediatric services for Scotland in the following areas:

  • Interventional Cardiology
  • Cardiac Surgery
  • Airway Surgery
  • Renal Services
  • Neurosurgical Services

Additionally, the unit also provide cots for neonates requiring general surgical intervention from across Scotland. The unit works closely with its sister neonatal units at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and the Princess Royal Maternity to provide comprehensive neonatal care to all babies within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area. The department is also a member of the Scottish Perinatal Network.
