Medical Paediatrics outpatient referrals

Children can deteriorate quickly. If you are concerned a child is clinically unstable, acutely unwell or has Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus please do not use the SCI gateway referral process. For information on our Acute Referral process click here.
Referrals accepted from:
- NHS GGC and the Western Isles
 - Referrals from other localities and areas where a more local service is available will be directed to local services

Preferred Method of Referral:
- Where possible referrals should be made through SCI gateway

Reasons for Referral:
- Medical paediatrics see children with a wide range of medical conditions
 - We accept referrals for children up until their 16th birthday, for young people aged 16 and over please refer to adult services
 - Your referral may be redirected from another service to Medical Paediatrics
 - If we feel another service would better address your patient concern we will redirect your referral
 - If your concern is about child development Please send your referral to a Child Development Centre (CDC)

Vetting and Urgency:
- Outpatient referrals are vetted regularly throughout the week
 - We offer a range of paediatric appointments, including Rapid Access Face to Face Clinics and Urgent Telephone appointments
 - Please indicate reason for urgency if you feel an urgent appointment is required and be aware that the urgency may be downgraded if clinically appropriate
 - Our initial appointments may be carried out by telephone, please ensure correct telephone contact details are included in your referral
 - Please indicate if an interpreter is required
 - Please ensure we have the correct contact details for your practice and availability of referrer if advice is requested

See our Pre-Referral Guidelines for information on referring many common conditions.
