We do not recommend pre referral blood tests in children with suspected Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Rheumatology : outpatient referrals
Referrals accepted from:
- Referrals from NHS GGC and the Western Isles.
- Referrals from surrounding areas will be vetted and placed in a locality network clinic ie Vale of Leven, Inverclyde.
Reasons for referral:
Children with rheumatic diseases need to be diagnosed promptly and will be referred to a specialist paediatric rheumatology multidisciplinary team who can provide support for the child and their family.
- juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) are a group of different types of arthritis including:
- systemic JIA
- polyarticular JIA
- polyarticular onset: rheumatoid factor positive JIA
- oligoarticular arthritis
- enthesitis-related arthritis
- psoriatic arthritis
- Our colleagues in the Ophthalmology team provide care and treatment for uveitis (inflammation inside the eye), which affects many children and young people who have JIA.
- arthritis associated with other chronic diseases
- scleroderma including systemic sclerosis and localised scleroderma
- juvenile dermatomyositis
- systemic lupus erythematosus
- overlap connective tissue disease
- vasculitis including Kawasaki disease, polyarteritis nodosa and other vasculitides
- chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis
- Autoinflammatory conditions including familial mediterranean fever (FMF), CINCA, Cryopyrin-Associated Periodic Syndrome (CAPS) and other genetic periodic fevers
- Systemic inflammatory conditions including sarcoidosis
- Mechanical disorders affecting the musculoskeletal system
- Heritable disorders of connective tissue
- Chronic musculoskeletal regional pain syndromes
