Call out of cardiac theatre and perfusion team for advanced trauma call

This SOP will detail the procedure for Emergency Theatre staff to call out the cardiac theatre team and perfusion team in the event of an Advanced Trauma Call activation

All theatre staff who work/rotate into Emergency theatre

4. EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS

Cardiac and perfusion call out sheet.

5. PROCEDURE

In the event of an Advanced Trauma Call being placed, the Emergency Department team will identify early to the theatre team if the cardiac theatre team and perfusionists are required. If this is this case, it is then the responsibility of the emergency theatre nurse to contact both;

  • Cardiac theatre team
  • Perfusion team (both for RHC and for city)

If this is Monday – Friday 0830-1700, then this will be by contacting the theatre coordinator who can then advise on the availability of cardiac theatre.

If this is Monday- Thursday 1700 – 0830 or Friday 1700 – Monday 0800, then it is the responsibility of the emergency theatre team to contact the on-call cardiac theatre team, RHC and city perfusion team via switchboard.

FURTHER INFORMATION/EXCEPTIONS

Any planned or unplanned deviations from this SOP must be documented and reviewed by the appropriate personnel
